Watermelon Themed Party

How do you celebrate a birthday when its a hot summer day? Easy!!! A Watermelon Themed Party....

We celebrated my 11 year old daughters birthday this weekend for her school friends. Yes my kids are lucky enough every year to have 2 birthday parties. A friend party and family party. Great for them but good for me too as I get to plan an extra 2 parties.

This was a challenge for me this year. Especially since she was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I wanted her to have a great party, this being her first since the diagnosis. So we brainstormed and thought of her favourite fruit watermelon. Along with her being diabetic, one of her friends is a celiac. So no glutens in this party either. So most of it consisted of just fruit and veggies including the cake!!!

Thank you Styling the Moment for the beautiful invitations and paper products. They were fantastic and refreshing.

Originally the setting was to be in the middle of a hay field, but it was so hot the day of that everything would have melted including the girls. So we retreated to a shady part in the gardens. It reminded me of a tea party actually.

I just loved how the colors looked together, pale pink and green. Not quite watermelon colors but oh so girly. And who can resist fresh picked flowers from the field earlier that morning.  I love that napkin holder I found at Ikea. So summery......

We couldn't decide which color of chair sashes we liked so we did both. A satin and a organza. Don't you just love the old chairs. I retrieved them from my grannies house. Give a true country feel.

Another jumping off point was those awesome paisley plates. The colors were perfect!! Thanks Party City. Once again the the talented Monica from Styling the Moment designed the water bottle labels and thank you tags and place cards, banner, cupcake wraps and toppers and tent cards. The goodie buckets consisted of everything watermelon....of course.....Watermelon scented bubbles, marker, lollipop, gum, candy, and lip gloss, and a pinwheel to blow in the breeze. Yes the water was also watermelon flavored....

Whipped cream watermelon cake with candy.

Gluten free cupcakes....

Watermelon rice krispy wedges and watermelon flavored fudge....

The party was a hit and so refreshing on a hot summer day. Happy 11th Birthday my beautiful girl. You have had quite the spring and you are so brave and strong for going through what you are now. I know you have your ups and downs but we will work it out together. You can do it!

Rustic "Pub" Birthday Party

The love of imported beer was the inspiration for this rustic pub theme. And what a better way to celebrate my husbands 45th birthday, surrounded by his closest friends. Rustic and recycled was pretty much everywhere throughout the décor. From a handmade bar made from barn boards to cedar wood candle centerpieces, right down to the branches suspended from the ceiling. It was down to earth, cozy and lots hints of fun...

To add a bit of humor, a tip can....I think more peanut shells went in it then tips!!!

The bar was full of yummy imported liquid.......The ON TAP sign was recycled from our daughters crib. Made a perfect chalkboard. The display of drinks was a vintage cooler, and the drinks were being chilled in Grannies old bread bowl and copper tub. Can't get anymore vintage then that!

The bar was handcrafted by myself using old barn boards and attached rusted out license plates. The bar stools cut from our firewood pile (notice how one is not straight, I swear there was no beverages consumed during the cutting). A hanging chandelier of lights over the bar once again created from recycled mason jars. Banner made by myself and will now be part of our home.

Close ups of stools. Vintage suitcases and boxes added to the décor beside the rustic bar.

Ok, so I couldn't do anything frilly in the ceiling and I had to do something, so branches it was with hanging mason jars. And if you didn't already guess, this is all in our garage.

The bar area. "Eat, Drink, Be Merry" reads on the banner. Bar/cruiser tables are covered old barrels with black tablecloths and a mini burlap runner. Peanuts sit on top of tables in galvinzed buckets.

Shelled peanuts and cedar wood coaster sat on bar tables. Coasters hand cut by me.

Burlap tied chairs and burlap table runner monogrammed with "R" our family initial.

Black charger plates, black napkins, cedar coasters for guests tied with jute twine.  Continuing with the theme, clusters of cedar candle holders, tied with jute and drilled out holes for the tealights. All wood supplied by a huge cedar tree that fell across our road this past winter.

A party would not be a party without desserts. Once again different tiers of cedar held the many different kinds of cupcakes all made from beer, except the rootbeer floats. Apple cider, Guinness, Beer & Bacon, rootbeer float cupcakes all were a huge hit. Its hard to decide which was the best! Along with the Irish Bombs that oozed with 3 different kinds of alcohol, Beer chocolate chip cookies, and one cannot forget the birthday cake which was Black Forest. And many other goodies.

Dress your own popcorn with different flavors. Non alcoholic drinks, personalized water labels and Keep Calm and Drink Beer sign.

And the survival bag. Filled with supplies to cure a hangover.

Strawberry Shortcake Party

Boy, where has the time gone? I remember when she was born, exactly two years ago today. Happy Birthday Sophie. You were a wonderful addition to our already wonderful family.

We celebrated her birthday this past weekend, which was also Mother's Day. It was a Strawberry Shortcake theme, her favorite character at the moment! Also one of my own and my daughters.  I think it turned out beautiful.

Thank you to the vendors that helped make this a special day.

Thank you banner strung on a old door. A nice way to say thank you to the wonderful guests that attended the party.

The guest tables were dressed in a red tablecloth, baby pink overlay, lime green table runner and a itty bitty floral pattern runner that I hand sewed myself. It actually looks like strawberries. A birthday hat was also made from the same material, but somebody forgot to use it.

The dessert table was all homemade goodies except for the strawberry sugar marshmellows. Strawberry cupcakes, strawberry cake pops, strawberry rice crispy squares, strawberry and white chocolate chip cookies and shortbreads, chocolate covered pretzels.

I also created the birthday banner behind the dessert table.

And of course it would not be a birthday with out balloons and more balloons. The ceiling of the garage was covered in tissue paper balls, streamers and paper lanterns, so it did not look so much like a garage.

I just love chair sashes. It really added to the whole theme. Baby pink.

Where the party was held. \In the garage. Thank goodness for it. The wind was very chilly that day and the house just does not hold 24 people.

Balloon topiaries on either side of the front door.
Greeted at the front door with a ribbon wreath. Actually I loved it so much it is still there. So springy.

Multi tiered strawberry cake with multi colored layers frosted with a sweet pink buttercream icing. Adorned with the birthday girls name, bunting style.

The gift and thank you table. Strawberry shortcake scented candles for the adults, lollipops for everyone and gift bags for the boys and girls, consisted of a Strawberry shortcake coloring and crossword book, glow stick, pinwheels, bubbles, Strawberry Shortcake Pencil, Strawberry Milk straws.

Water bottle labels and straw tags.
